Named after an old passenger train, the Hiawatha trail follows an abandoned railroad bed through beautiful forests and scenic lakes.
Your adventure begins in SARA Park, leading you across converted railroad trestle bridge, and spanning shimmering Lake Mohawksin that captures the essence of the Northwoods’ beauty.
6 miles of trail allow for a wonderful hike or bike ride, perfect for families and welcome to leashed pets. Parking and restrooms are available at SARA Park, making it a great day trip location to the Northwoods.
If you’re not ready for the adventure to end, you may continue your journey north as the Hiawatha trail merges with the Bearskin State Trail at the Oneida County line.
A final grading of the new granite surface will be occurring early in the summer of 2025.
