Hikers and bicyclists enjoy the numerous woods roads and trails that are found in this area.

Bike trails located in the Underdown Recreation Area have sections that are very challenging and are not for the novice rider. The signed horse trails are available for the beginning bike rider or for family outings. Please yield the right of way to horses when meeting on the horse trail.

The Ice Age Trail passes diagonally through this area from northeast to southwest and provides a well marked cross country type trail.

Cross-country skiing is the main winter activity in this area. Over 20 miles of ski trails consisting of several loops with varying degrees of difficulty make this system appealing to skiers of all skill levels. Trails are groomed weekly when snow conditions allow. Horn Lake Road is closed to vehicular traffic during the ski season.

Hunting and Fishing are also very popular recreation activities in this area. The whole area is designated a Ruffed Grouse management zone. Numerous hunter walking trails were constructed during the 1960s. Today, small acreage aspen clear-cuts are done to increase the age diversity of the aspen in the area. This type of habitat management also favors deer, bear and other wildlife species. There are several kettle lakes in the area that are accessible to year-round fishing opportunities. The county maintains 8 formal boat landings to give access for fishing or other recreational uses. Many informal access points to water also exist.
