Department: Health Department
The Injury Prevention Programs available through Lincoln County Health Department include: Cribs for Kids, Car Seat Safety Program, Home Safety Assessments, and Steps into Healthy Aging. A short description of each program follows.
Cribs for Kids: Cribs for Kids is a program to assure the availability of cribs to low-income families in Lincoln County. Requests for a crib must be made through a referring agency. Once the referral is received, parents are contacted and scheduled for an educational session at the Health Department. During that time, staff will explain safe infant sleep practices and review set up and take down of the crib. Parents receive a voucher which can then be redeemed after their baby is born. There is a $15.00 donation for the Graco Pack 'n Play, which is strongly encouraged to maintain the program. Anyone interested in making a monetary donation to purchase cribs for this program, can contact the Health Department.
Car Seat Safety Program: The Lincoln County Health Department has received a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) to provide car seats to low income families in Lincoln County. Child safety seats (car seats) help lower the chance of a child being hurt or killed in a crash. To see if your family qualifies for a car seat or if you would like your current car seat checked to make sure that it is installed properly, contact the Health Department. The Lincoln County Health Department is asking families to give a small donation for the child safety seat to help the program continue after funding is gone.
Home Safety Assessments: Our public health nurses can help to ease your mind when it comes to your baby's safety. A free home safety assessment is available at any stage of your young child's development. The assessment includes a room-by-room safety evaluation, information about baby/child safety issues, and product recommendations.
Steps to Healthy Aging: Steps to Healthy Aging is an 8-week program for Lincoln County residents, who are at least 60 years young, sponsored by Lincoln County Health Department and Commission on Aging. The program focuses on improving the participant's health by increasing the number of steps taken each day (participants receive an easy-to-use pedometer to count their daily steps) and healthy eating. Each week, there is a group meeting where educators teach valuable information regarding nutrition and perosnalized step goals are discussed. Participants can move at their own pace and personalize the program to fit their needs.
