Fluoride Supplements
Lincoln County Health Department offers fluoride supplements to Lincoln County children, from the ages 6 months and up to 16 years old, who do not have enough fluoride in their drinking water and do not receive adequate fluoride from other water sources, such as food and beverages. The program is offered at no cost.

Program requirements:
- Have a water test to determine the level of flouride in well water
- Be a county resident ages 6 months up to 16 years
- Submit a completed fluoride intake assessment/application form to determine if your child needs supplements
- You must test your primary water source for fluoride within 1 year prior to starting the flouride treatment and then repeat every 5 years. The health department will provide you with a free test kit.
- Have an appointment with the public health nurse in the office or over the phone to review the assessment and pick up fluoride tablets or drops.
- It is recommended that you consult with your child's physcian or dentist before starting fluoride supplements.

To see if your child is eligible:
Call Lincoln County Health Department at 715-536-0307 to receive an application form.

School-Based Mouthrinse
School-based mouthrinse program is offered to community schools with a non-fluoride water supply. According to the Centers of Disease Control, fluoride mouthrinse is a safe and effective way to prevent cavities. In Lincoln County, Pine River School implemented the program in 2006. There is no charge for the program and it has voluntary enrollment.

Fluoride Varnishing
Fluoride varnishing is applied to the teeth of infant and children under the age of 5. Fluoride varnish is a protective coating that is painted on teeth by a public health nurse to help prevent new cavities and to help stop cavities that have already started. The varnish program will be made available to Early Childhood/Head Start programs and daycares in Lincoln County.

Sealants
Lincoln County Seal-a-Smile program's goal is to reduce the proportion of school-aged children who have dental caries experience in permanent teeth by increasing the number of dental sealants on their teeth and promoting oral health as part of the child's total health. This is one primary prevention component of the health department's oral health program. These programs promote working within the dental community to establish dental homes for children. For the year of 2011, the Lincoln County Health Department will pilot the sealant program for second graders in Kate Goodrich Elementary (Merrill) and Tomahawk Elementary (Tomahawk). The goal would be to expand the program to serve all public, private, and home schooled second, third, sixth and seventh grade children in Lincoln County with signed parental/legal custodian/guardian medical history/consent forms in the following school districts. This program is made possible by the support of Merrill Area Public Schools, Tomahawk School District, and the Seal-a-Smile Grant from Children's Health Alliance of Wisconsin.
