It's spring and with the recent weather and snow melt, the Health Department has some general tips for residents and their homes in case of flooding.
2013 Seasonal weight restrictions - Highway Department
Lincoln County Highway Commissioner, Jerry Jagmin advised that the seasonal weight limits were suspended at 7 a.m. on Monday, May 13th, 2013 on all Lincoln County Highways except the gravel portion of CTH E which will be suspended at 12 noon on Thursday, May 30th.

Summer ATV Trails - Forestry, Land & Parks
Lincoln County summer ATV trails are open.

Side-by-side vehicles or UTVs are allowed on Lincoln County ATV trails as long as they meet the standard definition, and must be registered through the WI DNR.

The Underdown Recreation Area trails are open.

Summer recreational trails open May 1st (ground conditions permitting) and remain open until the first tracking snowfall unless posted closed.

Bike trails located in the Underdown Recreation Area have sections that are very challenging and are not for the novice rider. The signed horse trails are available for the beginning bike rider or for family outings. Please yield the right of way to horses when meeting on the horse trail.

NOTICE TO ALL LANDFILL CUSTOMERS - Solid Waste / Landfill
The Lincoln County Landfill is closing its construction and demolition waste site, as capacity has been reached.
Typical construction and demolition waste is still being accepted but it will be disposed in the regular landfill and customers will be charged the normal garbage rate for such items.

Deer Ticks Pass More than Lyme Disease - Health Department
Lyme disease is still the state of Wisconsin’s most commonly reported tick-borne disease, but two other diseases—human anaplasmosis (formerly called ehrlichiosis) and babesiosis—can also result from the bites of deer ticks. These diseases are less common than Lyme disease, but can result in serious illness. Numbers of reported cases of deer tick-transmitted diseases in Lincoln County are increasing. In 2011, a total of 85 Lyme disease cases, 4 babesiosis cases and 3 human anaplasmosis cases were reported. In 2010, our county had reported 60 Lyme disease cases and 2 babisiosis cases. In 2009, there were reported 69 Lyme disease cases and 14 anaplasmosis cases.

Dog Licenses are due by March 31st or dog license fee doubles and a late fee of $5.00 per dog is charged.
Emerald Ash Borer - Forestry, Land & Parks
The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), a native to Asia, was accidentally introduced to the U.S. and discovered here in 2002. Since then, EAB has spread throughout the lower peninsula of Michigan into Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Missouri and Pennsylvania.

Quarantined counties: State and federal EAB quarantines currently exist in 15 Wisconsin counties: Brown, Crawford, Fond du Lac, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Sheboygan, Trempealeau, Vernon, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties. Any ash material that could transport a life stage of the beetle is prohibited from being moved out of the quarantine area. This includes all hardwood firewood, regardless of tree species.

Reduce the Risk of Rabies - Health Department
Spring is the time of year when people may come in contact with baby wild animals, such as raccoons; not only are they cute but people may believe the mother has abandoned them. This can be extremely dangerous – rabies is most often seen in wildlife such as raccoons, bats, skunks and foxes. Rabies is a deadly virus that attacks the nervous system. The rabies virus is in the saliva and nerve tissues of a sick animal.
